Housing and Construction

The proposed Escalante Public Market is a multi-million project
financed out of the Presidential Stimulus
Fund. Currently, the loan application is being processed to finance
the construction of the remaining portion of the market.
The Escalante Socialized Housing
Project involved the purchase of 2.9 hectares in Barangay
Old Poblacion. Initiated by the previous administration, the project
was implemented fully by the City Government together with other
government and private partners. Site development and house construction
for the 4,568 hectare Pag-asa Habitat Homes was completed in 2002.

This housing project is a partnership between the LGU and the Negros
Occidental Habitat for Humanity, Philippines, Inc., a local affiliate
of the Habitat for Humanity, Philippines. The city provides the
lots, and the Habitat builds houses for qualified beneficiaries,
mostly the homeless and squatters. A total of 180 units have already
been built, with 40 units more to be constructed. This partnership
will be replicated in the remaining 20 barangays of Escalante City.
This is in line with the Mayor's commitment to attain Zero Squatting
by 2010.
