Social Services
Realizing
the importance of day-care service, the City Government expanded
the number of centers from 19 in 1998 to 49 in 2002, benefiting
over a thousand mothers and pre-school children.
Aside
from the 23 public elementary and 13 public high schools, three
(3) additional extension high schools (in Bgy. Japitan, Jonob-jonob
and Washington) were established to make education available to
the poor.
A public
library is open daily for elementary school children with books
acquired from donations and ten (10) Internet-ready computer units
donated by the Ayala Foundation.
One
district hospital, six private clinics and the rural health clinic
serves the health needs of Escalante residents. Dr. Vicente Gustilo
District Hospital is a 50-bed government hospitalTwo (2) ambulances
and one (1) rescue vehicle are available for emergencies.
Skills
trainings are conducted to promote entrepreneurship and to empower
the unskilled residents of the community.
