Escalante
- The City
Escalante's
dream of becoming a city was realized with the signing of
the City Charter in February 28, 2001, and its subsequent
ratification on March 31, 2001. In a sense, the mother of
all accomplishments, this legacy will be a milestone that
will spur this new city's transformation into a fast growing
and developing community.
Located
in the northeastern tip of Negros Occidental facing Cebu Island,
Escalante is accessible by any vehicle from any point of Negros
Island, and by ferry boat from Cebu. Minutes from the city
proper are white sandy beaches and unexplored caves for the
more adventurous tourists.
With
heavy reliance on its agriculture-based economy, the city
government has expanded its land requirements for non-agricultural
use to 16% in anticipation of future industrial growth. With
an educated workforce and pro-active government stance, Escalante
is poised as the alternative agro-industrial site and tourist
destination in Northern Negros.
